Even the most knowledgeable supervisors and managers, those who have a solid working understanding of what constitutes Sexual Harassment in the workplace, are now deemed insufficiently trained as a matter of law. Newly enacted laws require employers to provide Mandatory Sexual Harassment training and education to their supervisory employees.

» AB 1825 Text of Law (pdf).

The following topics are thoroughly covered in our Sexual Harassment and Unlawful Discrimination Training Workshops, to exceed the training requirements stated in the newly enacted Mandatory Training law:

  • Hostile Work Environment Sexual Harassment
  • Quid Pro Quo Sexual Harassment
  • Sex Discrimination / Pregnancy Discrimination
  • Sexual Orientation Harassment / Discrimination
  • Third Party Harassment
  • Email/Electronic Harassment
  • Non-Verbal Sexual Harassment
  • Retaliation for Complaining about Sexual Harassment
  • Preventive / Corrective Steps to Avoid Sexual Harassment
  • Remedies Available to Victims of Sexual Harassment
  • Liability Outside the Workplace
  • Assault and Battery
  • False Imprisonment
  • Investigation of Sexual Harassment Complaints

The adage, “an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure” could well have been penned with Sexual Harassment Training in mind. The benefits to employers of assuming a proactive stance with regard to Sexual Harassment Training cannot be underscored enough.

PROACTIVE MEASURES

In addition to conducting California State Mandated Sexual Harassment Training, all employers should immediately implement the following proactive measures to reduce their exposure to Sexual Harassment complaints:

  • Distribute a strong sexual harassment policy and have employees sign a statement acknowledging receipt of the policy.
  • Establish an internal complaint procedure and have an “open door policy” encouraging employees to bring grievances to management.
  • Respond to all complaints in a thorough and confidential manner.
  • Take immediate action against employees who have committed sexual harassment.
  • Documentation can show an employer’s commitment to not tolerating sexual harassment in the workplace. Document where and when State mandated training took place, who participated in the training and who conducted the training.
